Established in 1970 by wine industry pioneer David Hohnen and his brothers, Cape Mentelle is one of Margaret River’s original three founding wineries and will celebrate 50 years in 2020.
It was bold exploration and love for challenge that led Cape Mentelle's founders to plant the first vines in 1970, where no one dared to try before. The risks of the founding team were rewarded and today Margaret River is recognised as one of the finest wine producing regions of the world. Cape Mentelle, is to represent this region globally and strives to produce the most refined wines possible.
Margaret River is regarded as one of the most remote and isolated wine growing regions in the world, located in the far south-west corner of Western Australia, a three-hour drive south of the city of Perth. Surrounded by both the Indian Ocean and the Great Southern ocean, the Margaret River peninsula benefits from an ideal maritime climate, creating exceptional vine growing conditions.
