Anwilka began in the late 1990’s as a joint venture between Lowell Jooste, the former co-owner of Klein Constancia, and two Bordeaux wine experts – Hubert de Bouard, the co-owner of Saint Emilion’s renowned 1st growth Chateaux Angélus, and Bruno Prats, the former owner of the equally renowned Saint-Estephe’s 2nd growth Chateaux Cos d’Estournel in the Medoc.
Anwilka merged with Klein Constancia in 2012, becoming their sister wine farm in Stellenbosch. The 40 hectare estate is located just 7 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean in the Helderberg region – a prime area for the growing red grape varieties. The proximity of the sea, and the old iron-rich ferricrete soils help to create rich, bold and structured wines.
The debut release of Anwilka was in 2005, to such acclaim that when Robert Parker tasted it, he said “Fabulous -this is the finest red wine I have ever had from South Africa”! Anwilka is the estate’s flagship red blend, and continues to gather accolades, establishing its reputation worldwide.
