Carmenere is Chile’s flagship red grape variety, and the fruit for this wine comes from the Romeral vineyards again, but this time grown on alluvial silty-clay soils. The grapes were crushed and macerated for three days, before fermentation, and aging in used French oak barrels for 12 months, and benefiting from an additional six months aging in bottle. This red wine has purple and violet coloured flashes. The nose is all blackberries, blueberries and green pepper along with spicy cinnamon and clove. The palate is superbly balanced with rich fruit and hints of tobacco and white pepper, and a long, smooth, velvety finish. This is a terrific match with duck, turkey and roasted vegetables.
