Shiraz/Syrah

Shiraz/Syrah is estimated to be the sixth most planted grape in the world, though perhaps originally most famous for forming the majority singe varietals of the Northern Rhone where it known as Syrah. It is now planted throughout the wine world, in Chile, South Africa & Argentina where is still called Syrah, and also as the most planted variety in Australia where cuttings were first taken in 1832 and became better known as Shiraz. Flavour characters can vary from blackberries, pepper, dark berries, chocolate, mocha, violet and black pepper depending on climate and soils and are often full and rich.
